We can all be part of making a difference!

With the ever increasing demand for our world's resources, we are challenged to find ways to reduce our impact. Camp Stevens recognizes this challenge and has adopted the following Environmental Mission Statement:

"As a peaceful place apart in a beautiful natural setting, Camp Stevens serves as a point of contact between human beings and the natural world. Today we are faced with enormous environmental challenges, having failed in many respects to appreciate and protect the earth. We invite you to join us in reclaiming an active stewardship of God's Creation."

Perhaps the hardest part of being committed to lowering our impacts, is finding our way, making the right choices and living in as much of a sustainable manner as possible. Like many of you, Camp Stevens wants to make a significant reduction in our creation of green house gases, have less waste, consume less energy, eat responsibly grown food and much more. While we may not be sure of the best way to make the biggest differences in being better stewards of creation, we must accept the fact that we must all begin to reduce our impacts. If we can only start with small steps, we have to start with small steps. The time for the excuse that "I do not know what to do" is over. If you must start with small steps today, do it, because you can take a bigger step tomorrow. We all can.

We will be adding to these pages over time, adding more links as we find them. There are tons of great resources on the web. The Quick Links menu has some great sites that will help you calculate your impact, find good resources and tell you more about global warming. Listed below are some of the categories that we at camp are trying to address on a daily basis and want to help you with them too.

Reducing energy consumption at home and work. The burning of fossil fues for electricity generates about one-third of the U.S. global warming pollution. Saving here really helps.

Locally grown and organic food sources. We must reduce the amount of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides that are used to grow the food we eat.

Reducing greenhouse gasses and the use of fossil fuels in transportation. (coming soon)

Buying recycled paper products. (coming soon)

Environmental Change-Makers Here is a great resource full of ideas that you can use to make a difference and also ideas about how they are influencing their community to make a difference too!
