Sending your child to camp is a big decision.  Often times, sleep-away camp is a child’s first time away from home in a new place.  We realize that your child is the most important thing in your life; you want to make sure they are happy, healthy, and safe.  That’s why we’ve compiled a collection of thoughts, videos, and other resources to help you feel comfortable in choosing Camp Stevens as your child’s home away from home.

Camp Stevens is accredited by the American Camp Association. Rules for acceptance and participation in the camp program are the same for everyone without regard to national origin, creed, color, age, sex or handicap, providing that program requirements are met.

Leadership is provided by resident directors Trevor Graham-Wilcox and Joe Kiefer, assisted by a resident staff, trained counselors, chaplains and registered nurse. Policy and management of the camping program are under the Camp Stevens Board of the Episcopal Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego

The Camp Stevens Difference!  With a 1:4 ratio, our small group model allows us to respond to each camper’s expectations and unique gifts. Each cabin is lead by a counselor who completes a 10-day training on leadership, safety, and childhood development.

Adventure Groups: Two cabins (same age, opposite gender) connect during the day as an Adventure Group. This gives your child additional opportunities to connect with new friends and make lasting memories. Each Adventure Group also has a Resident Staff Member who serves as additional guidance for the cabin counselors as well as as resource for campers.  This individual is typically a few years older than the counselors, with previous camp leadership experience.

Medical Histories are required and accident insurance is carried on all campers. A medical examination is required under certain medical conditions.

Start and End Dates:  Adventure Sessions at Camp Stevens begin Sunday afternoon at 3PM and end Saturday morning at 9AM.  The two Sea Kayaking trips begin on Sunday and end on Friday; specifics will be coordinated with participants after registration.  The EPIC Hybrid Adventure and Ten-Day Trek program both begin on a Wednesday and end the following Saturday morning. Other information is provided in your session letter after registration.

Social Media Policy: One of our goals is for campers to experience independence from parents/guardians and technology; we realize this may be difficult for the adults, but assure you that your camper is in good hands. Counselors will take photographs of their Adventure Groups throughout the day, and our Facebook page will be updated throughout the week. If you want to send a message to your camper, email camper@campstevens.org with their name in the subject line. Postal mail sent to PO Box 2320, Julian, CA 92036 will be delivered to campers daily at dinner. You are welcome to email registrar@campstevens.org if you would like a brief update about your camper’s experience.

Bus or Van Transportation is available for all on-site adventure sessions at Camp Stevens except Counselor Training and Epic. Camp Stevens is about 3-1/2 hours from Los Angeles, 3 hours from Anaheim or Riverside, and 1-1/2 hours from San Diego. You can add bus transportation to your camper’s registration when signing them up, or afterwards, by calling 760/765.0028.

Pricing Structure: We believe camp is not a luxury, but a pivotal part of childhood.  We have three pricing options to allow your family to pay the registration fee that works best for you.

The Camp Stevens Campership Fund is available for persons needing financial assistance. If applying for a campership, please send in a Campership Application Form with the camp application. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of campership funds for any registration received after June 1.

 Menu and Food Philosophy: Camp Stevens is dedicated to serving campers delicious and nutritious meals that appeal to all ages and tastes. Our meals are healthy, kid-friendly, and can meet most dietary needs.  As part of our commitment to caring for the earth, we cook with seasonal, organic produce – often grown at camp – and sustainably raised meats. We do our best to include as many local, organic, and fresh ingredients as possible. Many items on the menu are sourced directly from our organic farm and gardens. And it’s all tasty!

Registration for all programs is available through our secure online portal [www.campstevens.org/register] – new families will need to create a profile while returning campers’ information will be stored from last year.   After registering online, you will receive an automatic confirmation email from the portal, followed by a direct email from registrar@campstevens.org with your Session Letter, usually sent within 48-hours of registering.  The Session Letter provides additional details about the camp session as well a packing list, medical forms, release waivers, and bus information.

Cancellation Policy: Full payment is due by May 31, 2017. Cancellations by that date get a full refund, less the $100 deposit. After May 31, there will be no refunds except in medical emergencies (when 50% will be refunded)
