Kitchen Assistant – Full Time, Year-Round

The Kitchen Assistant supports all aspects of kitchen operation by preparing meals according to the menu and the food service guidelines. This position requires independent and team-oriented work, reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager or Hospitality Director.

Pay and Benefits for Kitchen Assistant:
- Hourly Pay: $18.27/hr before food and housing deduction ($12.85/hr after), overtime rates based on rate before food and housing deduction.
- Paid Time Off: Paid Sick Time (accrued monthly), 12 paid vacation days per year, plus 14 camp-recognized paid holidays.
- Healthcare Benefit: Partially employer-funded healthcare, dental, and vision options available with employee contribution.
- Housing Benefit: Private, furnished room in shared home. Each house has 2-3 rooms and a common kitchen/living area/bathroom/shower.
- Food and Housewares Benefit: Staff can join in the dining hall for meals or bring groceries and leftovers home from the camp kitchen. Full access to paper goods, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, etc.
- Paid Training: CPR and First Aid, Cooking, Menu Planning, Etc.

Farm and Garden Manager – Full Time, Year-Round

The Farm and Garden Manager maintains and enriches the practice of regenerative farming at Camp Stevens. This unique role combines maintaining an educational garden environment for guests and campers with growing produce for the camp kitchen. The Farm and Garden Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the gardens, landscape, and natural areas of the camp.

Summer Camp Positions
Summer at Camp Stevens is wild, energetic, engaging, challenging, creative, and adventurous. No two days are the same, and there’s a lot to learn and to do. Staff and campers are nourished by our local, mostly organic and plant-based foods, and are encouraged to explore their own gifts and talents through their work with youth. We serve campers from across San Diego and Los Angeles counties from all different walks of life.

Pay and Benefits for Summer Positions
- Pay: $325-$450/week
- Housing Benefit: Shared or private room with shared kitchen, bathroom, and social spaces.
- Full food and housewares benefit: Staff can join in the dining hall for meals or bring groceries and leftovers home from the camp kitchen. Staff have full access to paper goods, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, etc.
- Paid training: CPR and First Aid, Youth Development, Ropes Course, Archery, and others as needed
Equity Grant Application
The purpose of this grant is to attract and retain the best qualified and most passionate staff by decreasing barriers to participation for people traditionally marginalized and underrepresented in camp staff and counselor roles.
Grant Application Process
- Apply for a summer role and complete the interview process.
- Receive your offer of employment (based on application, references, and interview).
- Complete the grant application form.
- Receive your grant notification and respond to your offer of employment.
Grants will be awarded to qualified applicants in the order received as funding becomes available, so please apply as soon as possible after you receive your offer of employment.

Non-Summer Seasonal Positions
Program and Hospitality Generalist Full Time, Seasonal March-June or March-December, 2026
Program and Hospitality Generalists live and work in community with the goal of contributing to our mission while learning and growing. This position does a little bit of everything including teaching/leading outdoor education programs, ropes course, team building, archery, and other activities, hosting family groups and retreats, and general tasks such as cleaning, foodservice, gardening, light maintenance, and land management. This is a great position for someone looking to develop a career in camping because there are opportunities to learn all parts of a camp and conference center, and plenty of room for leadership and creativity.
